French Quarter
Bachelor's Lair

This grand apartment constructed in the 1840s, is located in the heart of the New Orleans French Quarter in the Pontabla, the oldest apartment building in the United States   The client, a well traveled young lawyer and self described traditionalist, initially asked us to decorate his apartment exclusively with antiques and pieces with history.  Admittedly, we could have easily compiled with our client’s request—the apartment’s grand architecture and historic feel was certainly suitable to be decorated in a traditional sort of cliched way but that would have been far too expected and predictable as far as we were concerned.  Luckily, we convinced the client for the need to mix in modern furnishing and artwork into the overall design because we espouse there is nothing more staid than an old house filled exclusively with old furniture.

The resulting environment is a traditional space designed with a modern sensibility where French antiques are mixed with just the right dose of modern pieces coupled with a decidedly masculine color palette creating bold contrast and interest.
