Clean Traditional

Inspired by city houses, this detached Greek Revival Townhouse was designed and built in an established neighborhood by Ty Larkins Interiors.

Every effort was taken to make it convincingly “period” suggesting it has been built a century earlier.  The traditional and formal interior architecture, primarily informed by 18th century French Haussmann building design, features intricate boiserie moldings coupled with chevron oak wood floors, juxtaposed against a young and modern decor, creating a beautiful and unexpected tension one might find in a modern Parisian apartment today.

The home also features the firm’s signature mix of custom fabricated new pieces, antiques, vintage and classic modern.  However, the overall objective was not to upstage the interior architecture or the homeowner’s collection of modern art so the furnishings and fabrics were deliberately kept neutral and quiet.

The kitchen’s design was inspired by staff kitchens of the 1920s, which tended to be generous in size, but always very simple in their usage of timeless materials comprised of subway tile, white marble counters and frame-inlayed Shaker style cabinetry.

The home’s outdoor garden, which was inspired by the intimate, romantic courtyards in the French Quarter, is totally hidden from street view, so it creates a sense of privacy and mystery.
